Chassis Prep & Maintenance
Chassis Preparation
A commonly overlooked aspect to bike building is the preparation of the chassis. In reality, when starting with a stock bike and working from the ground up, the chassis prep in most cases is the step that takes the longest. A properly prepped chassis will not only pay dividends on how the bike feels while riding on the racetrack, it will also save time when servicing the bike, whether that is for removing/installing a rear shock to change setups or for a rapid crash repair between sessions.
A properly prepped chassis will:
Improve dynamic functionality of the bike.
i.e. feeling at top speed, feeling on the brakes, feeling when applying throttle
Improve the ability of the suspension to move
Reduce the rolling resistance of the machine
Create ease of repair and maintenance
Every rider understands whether a bike feels good or bad. What dictates this feeling is the work done on the chassis.
